We’re Going to Paint a Tiny Ice Cream Bar on Twitch Today

Alright, folks! Happy Monday! Today on my Twitch stream (LIVE at 2 p.m. EST), I thought we’d try something a little bit different: We’re going to paint a tiny ice cream bar, a study that’s just going to be 4″ x 4″.

We're going to try to paint this tiny ice cream bar LIVE on Twitch today at 2 p.m. EST.

We’ve spent the past week working on some larger ice cream cone paintings. I was able to finish up the details on two of them yesterday (my off-Twitch day) and I’ll probably finish the last two tomorrow (again, off of Twitch). When I get to the end stages of my paintings, I put in a lot of finishing touches, but it’s not really super-excited to watch it on stream; it’s hard to see exactly what I’m doing at that point. Of course, you can still listen to me ramble on about my painting methodology or my art life, share some stories or tell you about my little backyard garden. But really, it’s the painting that’s the cool part.

This morning, I photographed a Haagen Dazs ice cream bar at various stages. Some of my photos I may use for other paintings, maybe even a larger one or two. For today, I took one of the last photos I’d taken, when the ice cream was most eaten, edited it in Photoshop and drew it out to just a small 4″ x 4″ size. I don’t know if we’ll quite finish it today, but we’re going to give it a go.

LIVE ON TWITCH TODAY AT 2 p.m. EST.

Tune in and see me paint this tiny ice cream bar!

Years ago, not long after I started painting professionally, this is what I did. I was part of the “Daily Painter” crowd. Daily painter artists tried to get small works done in one or two painting sessions and then put them up for sale at an affordable price. Painting small (and a bit faster) is also an excellent way to hone one’s skills. So, it’s something that I’m thinking I’ll be doing more, maybe once a week, on my streams. Good practice for me, affordable art pricing for anyone who is interested.

If this one comes together, either today or maybe in our next live Twitch stream on Thursday, I’ll put it up for sale on my website under the Shop section, where you can find a handful of my original paintings, a lot of prints and my mini print clubs (the Mini Ice Cream Print Club or the Sweet Escapes Trompe L’Oeil Foodscape Print Club). Remember, this one is just a small, quick study, so I’ll keep it priced low compared to my other originals.

So here we go! Cross your fingers, stop by and see how it’s going, say hello or just lurk.

Live at 2 p.m. EST on Twitch today, Monday June 15th. Ready? 3….2…1….

I’m a full-time acrylic realism and trompe l’oeil painter creating whimsical food paintings inspired by real-life creations that I bake, decorate or scoop in my kitchen. All of my paintings are flat, painted with many thin layers of acrylic paint, aiming to look at three-dimensional as possible. I hope you’ll join me on the journey of creating art that brings a little happy magic into the world. I’ll be sharing my process, my insights, and hopefully some things that will inspire you to appreciate the little things around you every day.
